Our Trivial Body Obsession Confronted by Our New Reality

In this time, our trivial body obsession is being confronted by reality. ⠀⠀

For as long as we could remember, all we got to see were “perfect” looking women. Tall, underweight for their height, big boobs, and 💯 sexualized in whatever role they were playing. The female body was an obsession. ⠀⠀
The past few years we have seen a dramatic shift towards a more realistic depiction of female bodies which is great! But, when does that movement cross over into the obsession category as well? And, is that healthy?
⠀⠀
The female narrative is still body focused. Does it matter if it is unattainable and sexualized? Or, the opposite and talking about stretch marks and skin folds all day, every post, if it is the same topic different end of the spectrum?

The female form is not revolutionary. We have been around a long time.
⠀⠀

I understand the effort to normalize bodies, but bodies are normal. Look around.... we don’t see any of the crazy Facetune looking people on Instagram in the real world. We do however see a whole lot of people who look like us. ⠀⠀

So what are we normalizing exactly? Or, is that what we tell ourselves so we can stay where we are comfortable; obsessed with our bodies? ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
I think this virus and lifestyle pause has been really helpful in seeing the privilege it has been for such trivial topics to be our greatest concerns day to day. ⠀⠀

We can snap out of it! We can move past this obsession that is so deeply ingrained and we can start participating in life in ways we have not experienced. ⠀⠀

We can accept our form, care for it, move it, feed it well, and appreciate all that it is without letting our bodies be our story. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Your story is far more powerful than the shape of your body. I think it is time we normalize women being seen as more than a body to obsess over. Just some things to think about!🤘
